      In the case of the Romantic Road, Germany was desperate to rebuild a tourism industry in the post-war times and the idea of the formal "route" was created in (not long after the creation of the Federal Republic of Germany and the end of the military-administered occupation). Founded in , the Romantic Road has become one of the most popular scenic routes in Germany thanks to its culture and scenery. The route, divided into four wonderfully diverse sections, has also become a firm favourite with cyclists.

      The Romantic Road began in as a bus tour through this corner of West Germany, then occupied by the American forces, as a way to promote this historic route through Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
